Location: half Moon Bay yacht Club

Half Moon Bay is just within one hour of San Francisco and an epic location for efoiling. It is located in the Pillar Point Harbor and next to the legendary Mavericks wave and beach.

Within Pillar Point Harbor, the water is protected and great for beginners. Outside the ocean can either be compleltely flat or bombing with 10-20 foot swells depending on the time of the year. Either way, you get to have an amazing ride. Because of it's distance and unpredictability, it is an advanced rider location only.

Please contact us if you already have efoiling experience and would like to adventure into the open ocean.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never foiled or surfed before, is it easy to learn how to efoil?

YES! We have a very good success rate in getting folks standing up and efoiling within the first two lessons and many in the first lesson. It's a succsss if you can stand up and foil for a few second in the first lesson. Most of the time, it takes the mind and body to get used to the feeling of foiling, so get ready to fall a few times. Typically in the second lesson, you would practice what you have learned and become more competent. We often compare the learning curve of foiling to snowboarding. Most people can go down a green or blue line in the snow after a lesson or two. it's very similar in efoiling.

I have experience in one of the following: skateboarding, snowboarding, kitesurfing, surfing, winging, windsurfing, how easy is it to efoil?

Generally, if you have exprience in one of the sports mentioned above, you'll have an easier time learning how to efoil. Many of our clients can foil in the first lesson. However, foiling is very different from surfing or any kind of boarding because foils do not have edges, we do not depending on edging the rails to make turns. This can be a challenge to those who have previous surfing or boarding experience because the movement in foiling is a lot less than what your body is used to doing in the current sport. Efoiling is a very great way to learn how to foil without added pressure of catching a wave or controlling a kite, so if you're trying to transition from surfing to foiling, it's a great way to learn!

What should I bring for the lesson?

All you need is a swim suit and a towel for afterwards. If you wear glasses you may want eyeglass holders or wear contacts for the lesson. We provide: The complete efoil package,  helmet, and PFD (Life vest).

It can be helpful to bring a pair of booties if you have one.

Can I rent an Efoil?

In general, we cannot provide unsupervised rentals due to the value of the efoils, safety & liability, insurance unavailability, and California PWC regulations.

Even if you have foiling experience (i.e. Wing foiling or Kite foiling), we cannot rent you an efoil because the experience and the operation of an efoil is very different.

We do offer supervised rentals for those who have taken lessons and know the safety procedures of operating an efoil. The price is $250 for Alameda and $350 for the greater Bay Area.

Why shoudl I buy a board from BayFoils?

We pride ourselves in providing you with the best service possible as a Flite partner. We have demo equipment across the entire line up so you can try the boards that you are considering.

For every purchase, we discount the first lesson ($350 value) from the purchase so that you get to learn how to foil for free.

We provide unboxing, software update, and installation services for free on your purchases so you don't have to waste time before getting on the water. We show you how to assemble and de-assemble the board, how to upkeep and provide annual service for all boards.

In short you have a partner in your local area for all of your efoiling needs!
